Lessons from Today’s Scripture Reading: Saul had been without - TopicsExpress

Lessons from Today’s Scripture Reading: Saul had been without food for several days. After his baptism, the disciples in Damascus gave him food so that he would regain his strength. Verse 19 also says that he spent several days with the disciples at Damascus. We need to stop for a moment and mention that verses 20-25 have created many question for scholars and teachers of the Bible because of what Paul writes in Galatians 1:17 that he went to Arabia after his Damascus Road conversion. Whether Paul started his preaching ministry immediately after his conversion or three years later is unimportant for our conversion. What is important though is that the scripture says he preached on the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Without question, his encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ profoundly changed his life. It also created a real danger for him because of former life as a religious zealot. The Jews in Damascus plot to kill Saul. When hearing of a plot to kill Saul the disciples help him escape the city. What does all this have to do with us? First, the Lord Jesus Christ will profoundly change one’s life. Second, those who were once our friends will not want to know us anymore. Some people will even ridicule you. Do not worry about any of those things though because the Lord Jesus Christ promised he would never leave or forsake you. Trusting in him provides one with an everlasting hope for all eternity. I pray that we are living in the light today by abiding in Christ and living in the fullness of the Holy Spirit of God. May God the Father bless us today through the reading of His word. Selah Yours in Christ Jesus, Keith Acts 9:19-25 19 So when he had received food, he was strengthened. Then Saul spent some days with the disciples at Damascus. 20 Immediately he preached the Christ in the synagogues, that He is the Son of God. 21 Then all who heard were amazed, and said, "Is this not he who destroyed those who called on this name in Jerusalem, and has come here for that purpose, so that he might bring them bound to the chief priests?" 22 But Saul increased all the more in strength, and confounded the Jews who dwelt in Damascus, proving that this Jesus is the Christ. 24 But their plot became known to Saul. And they watched the gates day and night, to kill him. 25 Then the disciples took him by night and let him down through the wall in a large basket.
