Lessons in leadership. If you are in charge of people, remember two things. 1. Your job is to make sure those who work for you are developed well enough to do your job. This is the biggest mistake people tend to make in leadership roles. They fear for their own position if they train people below them to do what they do, so they hold onto the knowledge...and the workload...until it overwhelms them. Remember, those below you being as good as, if not better, than you are is a testament to your leadership skills that shines far beyond simply being good at your job. 2. The avalanche stops at you. The old adage of "shit rolls down hill" is not something that should ever be the norm. Even if it rolls downhill to you, it needs to stop there. You need to be the barrier that catches the "shit." From you, only constructive training should flow downward.
