Lessons to BBMP from AAPians & Residents of Jogupalya: This Sunday AAP volunteers took up the job of fixing a series of black spots in the Jogupalya ward (Ward # 89). We are working on Solid waste Management (SWM) program in this ward since last 2 months to make it a PILOT ward for our SWM Program in Bangalore. You would remember this initiative was kick started on 3rd of Aug 2014 by Shri H S Doreswamy at BTM Layout. During these two months we have identified a lot of issues in SWM in the Jogupalya ward. After several rigorous and diplomatic follow up with the SWM Officials of the Jogupalya ward, the officials have agreed to fix the problems and have given us a free hand in framing the solution and define the process. WE HAVE FINALLY USED BBMP RESOURCES AND SHOWED THEM HOW TO MANAGE THE GARBAGE ISSUE. Thanks to BBMP officials for giving us an opportunity. Though the ward had series of problems and deficits in several requirements, we planned and implemented a process in the ward in last one week using the same resources which BBMP has employed. On this Sunday, 28th Sep 2014 we beautified the Black Spots. The ward has several Black spots and we have managed to remove few of them permanently and made the place more livable for the residents in the area. We have initiated the Door-to-Door Pickup in the area after about 3 Years and in parallel have removed the black spots. We are very glad that people who we educated are co-operating by not throwing the garbage on the road side. Garbage at black spots have reduced by more than 75% in last 3 days. Our efforts are highly appreciated by the local residents and people are approaching us for a similar problem in the neighboring wards, which we shall be fixing in the coming week. Spot Fix No 1 at Jogupalyam – 8th G Street : At Jogupalya 8th Street, we were moved when some of the local residents joined hands and took an extra step by taking part in the cleaning the dirty spot. They even took turns to stay at the black spots for the entire day from 11AM to Mid night and ensured that no Littering happens. Next day morning people were back on the road by 5AM to stay vigil. This is SWARAJ which we at AAP are working towards. Spot Fix No 2 at Jogupalyam – Cambridge 1st Cross : At Cambridge 1st Cross, we cleared the spot and painted the wall and educated the residents about maintaining the place. We stayed at the spot from early morning 6AM to 11AM and educated the people who came there to throw garbage. Majority of the Garbage in this area is from the nearest Bouque Shop, HOPCOMS, Medical shops… We have educated them and have received promises to follow the process. Spot Fix No 3 at Jogupalyam – 14th Cross ESHWARA LAYOUT: At this point we (AAP) just pushed the BBMP officials to get the Garbage cleared and helped the immediate Neighbor Mr.Lavanya Kumar to monitor the place. By seeing the improvement since 4 – 5 Days in the spot, two families staying in the locality decided to paint the area and make it more beautiful so that further littering is avoided. On last Saturday & Sunday they came out with their Family including small kids and they changed the locality by giving it a posh look. Our One step towards SWARAJ as delivered a very big step by the local residents. Please join hands to make this a great event. Every weekend or Public Holiday we shall make the area more beautiful by fixing the black spots. We request local residents and AAP volunteers to come forward and take part in the act.
