Lest we forget: Mabulabo Jere a man double faced A man of solitary as an oyester, tall and vigourous with an everlasting smile on his face, wearing an illustrious laugh, the father of long, long of brilliant laughs, but at the same time secretive and self contained, a rock hard to crack, a trickster shape-shifter changing from a jovial character to a self made bandit. This was the son of Euthini, RIP, he went down there living his family with a lot of debts to be paid, living Euthinians longing for his jokes Mr Mabulabo probably the name from the inkosi Mabulabo one of the chiefs in our ngoni kingdom Mabulabo Jere was a butcher by proffession, he was one of the well known butchermen at Euthini trading center, a long with Mr Zoli Ngwira the greatest and a successful farmer Euthini has ever produced, the cunning Kachikungu Soko, it was a trend that lived up to the recent generation till the chigande boys broke into the trade putting an end to the trade monopoly, whenever Mabulabo run bankrupt that he cant afford a slaughter he could embark on a long journey to the ends of Euthini and impersonate himself as a inkosi chindis messenger, telling the owner of the herd he want, that he has been sent by the chief himself to talk to them that they should release the herd immediately and give it to him before they are evicted from the kings land, he could talk with authority without fear, he was blessed with this voice which none would doubt his chores, once he achieves his prey, he walks out, that oxen or bull will be under the edge of the knife without wasting any day, sooner or later inkosi Chindi would find out, which would make the chief go mad at him but all he could do was sweet talk the chief, apologise and he was at it again, he could come at cattle stable choose the fattest herd and pay a fifth of the price, and thats all, he will not show up, what amazed me with this man he never looked worried, even if he was drawn under oath in a court to answer his cases he was cool and collected and some of his cases favoured his fabrication, few times was he convicted, Mabulabo was a self made lawyer, God knows in which class did he get with his school but he really was wise, for most of the people far from Euthini they knew him as Mr soko because the younger brother was soko, I remember one of his cases in the dock at Euthini local court he asked the owner of the desputed cow, Mr X do you know me? with a loud voice the accuser goes like yah! son you think am stupid you are a Mr Soko, despite the court chairman pronouncing Mabulabos name, that was a loop hole Mabulabo used to win the case, you cant sue someone you dont know, thats defamation of the unknown, if the law can turn around you are in for a charge. Wherever Mabulabo went he either left behind one or two people laughing or others angry, he had ugly jokes if he meet a woman on the way he ceremoniously kneltdown and crack a bomb of a joke living others in a frenzy of a laugh he could look at the face of a woman and will went like your are such an ugly woman why did your husband marry you ? or he will go like ahh! how are you doing I have heard from your husband that you never let him sleep all the night you are such a bustard, he might crack ugly jokes on a husbands watch, like hey you dont greet me now because your husband is here, look I dont miss your kisses anymore! Other people knew him but others could loose their tempers, for him was business as usual, smiling like moonshine! Mabulabo Jere, another son of Euthini missing in action there is none like him, come rain or sunshine at the midst of the storm he made people laugh, out of those laughs he grinned a smile, a smile that soothed the hearts of his offenders, he is one movie star Euthini would have produced if we were in holy wood. Requiescate in pace (RIP) Goodmorning chindians!
