Lest we forget... ~On this day three short years ago a violent offshore earthquake of a Magnitude 9.0 shook Japan. When the many minutes long shaking stopped, the real nightmare began. Walls of water meters high, generated by the undersea uplift during the quake raced out in all directions. The east coast of the island country was repeatedly inundated with walls of sea water wiping clean everything in its path. Entire towns wiped off of the map, many thousands dead and missing, bodies never to be found. And then it got worse! On the central east coast of Japan, right on the beach a nuclear power plant went dark. When the power went out the plants backup generators kicked in and the cooling water flowed again through the facility. When the 48 foot wall of water crashed into the nuclear power plant, only a handful of people knew the eventual outcome. The sea disabled the generators and destroyed critical mechanical devices. No cooling of the reactor cores only meant one thing, meltdown. The radiation released as a result of the exploded reactors and melted cores and continuous pouring of hot radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean, will taint and effect nearly all life around the globe for many un-tolled generations in a myriad of gruesome ways. ~The innocents of Japan still suffer the most, to them I give a somber bow. The American and Canadian Pacific Northwest or Cascadia as it is called, face a similar future a Mega Quake, it is unavoidable, yet we do nothing. ~In just over two weeks, some of us who had experienced the 9.2 earthquake in Alaska as children, remember and share our experiences with others so that others can learn, understand and prepare. Humanity can understand the power of the processes of this planet, but if he cannot learn to live with them in harmony, he dooms himself to be consumed by them in destiny. Here is a powerful look at the 3/11 Japan events with David Suzuki, 1 year after the Tohoku event:
