Let Your Feelings Show Many of us try to put on a brave face when our hearts are broken, even though we are dying inside. It’s often necessary to do this in certain situations, like at work for example, but don’t make it habitual. When at the right time and in the right place, let your feelings show. Don’t hold back. Cry, scream or just sit there and experience the sadness. By getting in touch with your emotions, you work your way through the pain and anger of heartbreak. It’s much healthier than keeping it buried deep inside, letting it fester into unchecked depression or rage. That’s neither good for your body nor your soul. Also allow yourself to experience the seven stages of grief: shock, denial, anger, bargaining, guilt, depression and finally acceptance and hope. As you travel through each one, you are furthering your journey towards healing and wholeness. You have a powerful tool at your disposal when it comes to healing a broken heart—your imagination. When you need a break from dealing with difficult emotions, simply call on your imagination for help. Let it whisk you away to faraway places or future times beyond the heartbreak. Think about a trip you’d like to take, or indulge in a romantic fantasy with a mysterious new partner. Picture yourself having a fun time out on the town. Imagine yourself healed, happy and free! A word of caution—beware of your imagination taking you back to your past relationship if you’re not ready. For some people it can help the healing process, while for others it can make the pain worse. Know yourself and your limits.
