Let me clarify a few things about mechanical issues with the Pro - TopicsExpress

Let me clarify a few things about mechanical issues with the Pro Line plate. 1) Pro Line trucks were never intended to have the axles replaced since the axle and pivot pin were cast into the housing @ the factory. 2) While it is possible to remove a Pro Line axle there is no guarantee the problem is even the axle. It is possible to bend the housing and not even bent the axle, but the axle looks bent. I know, I have punched out more than one Pro Line axle only to find it perfectly straight in the lathe. Putting a replacement axle in the bent housing produces another bent axle. 3) It is also possible to bend or crack the pivot arm when pressing out a Pro Line axle. 4) Sellers: When selling Pro Line plates check the axles for straightness. It is simple enough to do. Just chuck each side of each truck into a variable speed drill and turn the truck slowly with the drill. It is real simple to see. In my book there is no such thing as a slightly bent axle when the sk8 is for sale. I have recently rebuilt a Pro Line truck with a slightly bent axle because the sellers definition of slightly bent was far more liberal than mine is. To me slightly is NO more than 1/2 the axle diameter when the wobble is measured @ the end. While difficult to determine in a drill it is real easy in a lathe. ;) 5) Buyers: BEWARE!! Make darn sure the seller will take the plates back if you find unlisted defects. There are some sk8rs out there that pound the living crap out of their sk8 and expect them to be bullet proof. Pro Lines, while tough, are not bullet proof and with the advent of jam sk8ing dads old speed plates have been subjected to way more abuse than originally intended. Blowing a landing...say on one wheel on a hard suspension is about guaranteed to hurt some part of the sk8. Common Pro Line defects include worn out pivot cups and possibly the pivot ball on the truck, bent axles and / or truck housings, cracked king pins, stripped adjuster nuts or grub screw threads in the king pins. I have even run into a king pin that was stripped on the big end and glued into the plate with red Loc Tite. :P Just passing on the things I have actually worked on in the last 15 years. I can promise you this list is not all inclusive to everything that can go south on a Pro Line or many other plates for that matter.
