Let me clarify something regarding outreach because many on the right have said to me We dont do identity politics & to that I would agree that that is a major difference between the left & the right. Doing outreach to underrepresented communities on your side is not identity politics. When I say that the GOP needs to do more outreach, I mean that we need to share our values more, particularly fiscal responsibility & small federal government, among other things. That does not to be broken down racially, which of course IS identity politics. What Im saying is that we need to communicate/share not only our values - socially & fiscally, but explain/demonstrate WHY ours (policies) is a better way. Were not doing that now at all, racial demographics notwithstanding. What bothers me is when this is discussed on my page, some on the right are quick to retort that we dont need to pander to black people or Hispanics yet will quickly say things which relegate black & Hispanic Democrats/liberals to blind followers of the left who merely vote based on handouts. I never hear that said about anyone other than black & Hispanic voters. Then all of the rhetoric about the history of the Democratic party comes with the GOP being the heroes who fought for civil rights & the DP being the KKK. There is some real truth there but neither party is what it once was & minorities know that - theyre not stupid or unaware. The bottom line is this: If the right does not do identity politics which is fine, then be consistent & stop dishing out identity based criticisms. If outreach, which involves racial identity politics is not a good thing, then neither should the criticism be racial. Keep it about the failure or success of policies & legislation - no more, no less.
