Let me preface this by saying that I do believe everyone is entitled to her/his own opinion. I, however, only respect those that have been formulated based on actual thought and solid research. With that being said: Random guy at 7-Eleven (from here on referred to as Bob): I see you still have your I Voted sticker on your jacket. Me: I completely forgot it was still on here. Bob: I didnt vote. Me: Im sorry to hear that. Thats very unfortunate. Bob: Dont be sorry. Midterms arent important. I only vote during presidential elections. Me: *attempts to maintain composure* Sir, that has to be the dumbest thing I have heard in a long while. Bob: *eyes widen* It may be dumb to you, but thats my opinion. Me: Sir, I understand that, but it should actually be dumb to EVERYONE seeing as though it is a wholly uneducated assumption. Bob: *folds arms* So youre calling me stupid, now? Me: No, Im calling your notion that midterms are unimportant stupid, sir. Bob: And why is it stupid to YOU? Me: Its stupid PERIOD because the President is not a one-man show. Sure, he typically has a great deal of influence as far as policy making, but if youve paid any attention to this presidential term and last, Congress has all but thrown a tantrum and fought him on nearly everything. Bob: So your point? Me: They have caused a government sequester because they outright WOULD NOT, not COULD NOT, do their jobs. Those officials collecting checks for not doing a damn thing are the same ones that could have either been reigned in by their constituents or kept out of office altogether. They arent on the presidential ballot, sir, they were on the ballot you chose to ignore yesterday. Bob: So youre saying the presidential election doesnt matter? Me: *facepalm* No, Im saying theyre all important. But the President is responsible for the nation and the best way for our voices to reach him is through the senators and representatives that WE put in office. Now, my Slurpee is melting. I do not have time for thoughts formulated out of ignorance, especially when I have a Coca-Cola and wild cherry Slurpee to consume.
