Let me share some wisdom with you about loyalty. If fierce loyalty - TopicsExpress

Let me share some wisdom with you about loyalty. If fierce loyalty were common it would not be a virtue. Thus, the tragedy of being fiercely loyal is that it will almost never be reciprocated. You will stand sword and shield drawn in defense of others but when you need their defense they will not stand up for you. It simply is not a common virtue. Dont be hurt, and I urge that as someone frequently thus hurt. Be loyal and fight tooth and nail for your near and dear. Just dont expect anything in return. You will rarely receive it. That has, indeed, vexed me. But that vexation opened my eyes to the fact that I had to question my intentions. And you should do the same when you are, too, thus hurt. Are your loyalties for those you defend or are they so that others praise you as a loyal and valiant person? Even worse, are your loyalties so that you can feign selflessness and humility to the people while you whisper praises to yourself within the recesses and concealment of your inner ego? Let loyalty be a reflex. No command. No thought. Just impulse. Just reflex. When it becomes as natural to you as breathing —and I hope you dont expect any reward for breathing— then you will truly be a loyal ally and defender of those whom you love.
