Let me show you a vision of two worlds, and the imperative - TopicsExpress

Let me show you a vision of two worlds, and the imperative difference between them. Both worlds, like ours, have a single technologically representational sentient animal. One of them has a future. On the first world the relationships with language, knowledge, intelligence, and technology are driven not by active intelligence or purposive relation... but by confusion and reactivity. These people use machines to compete against themselves, each other, and life on Earth. They dump their evolutionary momentum ever more precipitously not merely into technology, but war, and the vast and unceasing production of every ‘product’ imaginable because their perspective is ‘every new object is good and should be made’. They also »copy these objects obsessively, and rather than establishing social, education, ecological or intelligible cultures… they are cultures of competing-passive consumer-slaves, and their abominable masters. The goal is more objects, slaves, and machines… at »every possible cost. They rapidly wipe out the nurseries of life on their world, and, as this proceeds, their access to their own evolutionary, developmental and intellectual momentum is ever further shunted into the production of machines, wars, false cultures, entirely false knowledge systems… and general apocalypse. These people ignore the existence of their biosphere as an intelligent relational hyper system, and they wipe out its ecologies and ignore the signals of emergency that result. They are addicted to pretending that their addiction to self-and-other-destruction »is intelligence. The first world is the result of the passive role in the face of the potentials of representational cognition and machine-relation. On the second world the relationships with language, knowledge, intelligence, and technology are not fictionally empurposed. They cannot be. The nature of the people’s participation is active, and their collectives are authentic. Their relationships with language, knowledge, intelligence and technology are driven only by mutual and ecological concern, awareness, care, and insight. They do not mass produce objects as placebos to treat the gross deprivation of personal or communal development. Their personal and collective embodiments of active agency are intact and self-correcting. They never make the same object twice. All technological objects are rapidly optimized and recycled. The biome is understood to represent an impossibly sophisticated intelligence, and they interact with its assets as though precious and irreplaceable. Living beings and relationships are valued above all abstractions. Since they are all active, and their efforts are explosively mutual… their fates are mutual, and their goals acquire the forward evolutionary momentum and intelligence that their active participation in their development invokes. They have neither wars nor prisons. Police are unnecessary. Because their culture is intelligent, they are exceptionally cautious about the nature of their relationships with nature and evolution and refuse to dispose of them by a process that emulates progress, but is, actually disease. Their world was ours once. But »we decide, together, passively or actively… to which world… and people… we belong.
