Let me tell yall about this kid Antonio Thompson Five years - TopicsExpress

Let me tell yall about this kid Antonio Thompson Five years ago, I wrote a story on my blog about how Biggie left his belt behind at The Source in an office I inherited. On the 12th anniversary of Bigs death, I invited some of the folks who knew the legend of Biggies belt to The Sources old offices in Union Square for a quick photo shoot. But I didnt have a photographer. Or a camera. I sent a message out via FB/Twitter: If you have a decent camera and want to take a quick shot for me, hit me up. This kid popped up and said, Ill do it. Ill meet you at Union Square in an hour. By the time I got there, this kid had his equipment out and was putting people into position to get the shot. I had never seen him before in my life. But I knew he had something. A year later, it was time for me to get my publicity pictures taken for my first novel. I called the kid up. He made it happen. On time. Professional. And I havent used a different set of PR pics since. (My FB profile pic up there? Yup. Thats him. Pic of me on the back of my book? Yup. Thats him too.) When I was coming up in this game, I was hungry. I went in. I went hard. And much of what Ive been able to accomplish in my career has less to do with talent and more to do with sheer will and determination. Thats this kid right here. So when VIBE said I could go to Ferguson, I knew who I wanted with me. Someone who doesnt need direction. Someone who just makes it happen. Whether hes writing copy, tracking down sources, taking stills, video, editing video or just outlining the arc of a visual story, Im very proud of this young man, particularly for his contributions to #VibeInFerguson. Salute!
