Let me tell you a little bit about my mother.... Her name is Annastasia. Wife of Raphael and mother of Vivian, Bernadette, Maureen, Nkechi, Chijioke, Ebere and Kelechi. She is a mixed grill, if a human being can be called that. On one hand Strict, principled, frugal, and no-nonsense, shed tell you off and scold you thoroughly if you messed up. On the other hand, bubbly and effervescent, with the energy of a teenager. Theres never a dull moment with her. A phone call to her thats intended to last 5 minutes would usually run into 30 minutes or much longer. Discussions with her are always dotted with laughter, stories, laughter, stories and more laughter. Always engaging and jovial, her ever-happy moods sometimes irritate me because I dont understand how she manages to be upbeat all the times, even in dire circumstances. She sees the bright side of any situation and experience and makes a joke out of most things. Very few things get her mood sober and when they do, she doesnt stay sober for too long. What I love most about her is her heart. You see, she has the largest, kindest heart I have ever seen in a person. Everybody is welcome in her home and theres always a meal for whoever drops by. She prefers to see the good in everyone, while ignoring their flaws no matter how serious. Shes tolerant to a fault and will continue to forgive and forgive and forgive even when we tell her shes being taken advantage of. Indeed observing her has taught me a lot about tolerance, even as I struggle to imbibe that virtue totally. Shes very stylish, modern, loves to dress up and knows all the latest trends and news. At the same time shes your typical Igbo traditional wife who insists on preparing all her husbands meals #rolling my eyes#. Retired from formal employment, now a full-time housewife, her devotion and attachment to her elderly husband of errm..... errm...... many years has no limits. Tending to his meals, driving him to the hospital, insisting he takes his medication at the right time, answering his phone calls [he NEVER picks his calls; I dont know why he bothers to keep a phone], making sure his bath water is the right temperature..... #rolling my eyes again#.......are part of her daily life with him, a life shes living with so much devotion and and care, as though she was born into it. That is just who she is in a nutshell. I could go on and on.... Today I call her Blessed, because shes loved and appreciated in and outside her home. We are grateful to have her as our mother. I wish her a belated Happy Mothers Day!! I also wish all my friends, mothers now and mothers to be, a wonderful belated Mothers Days evening!!
