Let me tell you a story of always get a second opinion when it comes to home repair work.My 77 year old Mother thought she was having furnace trouble( turns out it was dead batteries in her thermostat) and she has insurance through Consumers Energy so they sent a service tech from Macs All-Temp from Hillsdale to checkit out. After 3 unsuccessful attempts at finding the problem and supposedly sealing the combustion chamber, this technician finally told her that her furnace was emitting a very dangerous amount of Carbon Monoxide and that it was shot. For whatever reason he didnt just shut her furnace down he proceeded to disassemble it even unhooking the PVC pipe to the outside. This of course scared my Mom to death and had her panicked and then of course he gave her an outrageous price for a new one.I made a phone call and to the rescue came my cousin Ben Sauber,a furnace man plus, who thought this sounded shaky so he put it back together, fired it back up and we checked all registers with absolutely no sign of any Carbon Monoxide. Thanks to Ben an Ex-Marine and 14 year veteran in heating and cooling who works for Lammers, its working perfectly now and she is so grateful to him. This other unscrupulous tech better hope Im not there when he comes back to collect his electric heaters he left.Always get a second opinion!
