Let me tell you about a journey of discovering purpose in life. From infancy, it starts with selfishness, but a life pursuit of self focus only leads to loneliness and sadness. It inevitably leads to the political, social, and environmental activisms of the college years, but the second amendment, immigration policies, and global warming will not stand by you as you cry yourself to sleep at night. So the young man seeks purpose and identity in women, drinking buddies, or fictitious Facebook friends. None of them satisfy his dying need for a life calling. Now, the slightly more mature man finds a job and gets a white picket fence for his beautiful family. He pours his life into his job or spoils his kids but he lives for the weekends and vacations. He has not found true happiness. How do I know? Because I have been in many of these places and have seen it written the faces of men. No one is actually satisfied by these substitutes. So as this man grows in wisdom, one day he walks smack into the heart of God. As a loving Father, God gives him what nothing else could - a worthy calling that will last the rest of his days. Now he loves with the love of Christ and stands upon the Rock of Salvation. No hardship will ever touch his peace, joy, and love. Oh what a great journey it is!
