Let me tell you about some of the girls Ive known in my life. Theres my mother, Susan Spahn. Never was there a more passionate, more driven and braver woman Ive ever met. Whether it was sitting beside my bed as I linger on the edge of death, praying and hoping over a broken baby or challenging anyone with her amazing presence who dare threaten her childern - she never waivered. She never stepped back. She never gave an inch. Then theres my sister, Kelley Spahn McFadden. Im often fond of saying She doesnt know how to fail, but thats not entirely fair. Its more that theres never been an obstacle she didnt face head on. Whether it was dedicating herself to a first-class education while working her ass of or throttling the world until it could do nothing but give her a miracle, her dedication is beyond belief. Of course, theres my wife Emily Spahn. I could gush endlessly about her - but in short, I will just say that she is the most patient, compassionate, intelligent woman Ive ever met. She drives me each day to be a better person. So many countless others: My second mother Pat Muscat Edwards, my little sister in spirit Melissa English and her mother Paige, my BBBFF Jody R. Boyce, or my hetero life-mate Jessica Alsentzer Carr - the gift of having them in my life cannot be repaid.
