Let me try to explain why weve made this decision. I figure everyone who has followed us has learned a great deal about fighter and his kidney problems so Ill try to explain whats going on with him. Fighter has many challenges, the first being luto. He was without fluid for a two to three week period. This caused hyperplasia within his lungs. They installed a amino port to substitute his amniotic fluid with saline. Unfortunately, he was born premature so his lungs, which were small anyways, will not be able I sustain life. Also, the doctor has observed scarring on the lung tissue. The doctors states he would most likely have to have a tracheotomy to breath. Both if fighters kidneys are cystic. They produce very little urine. The urine they do produce is sun par so his blood is very acidic. As for dialysis, it can be done but fighter needed longer to be inside. Hes too small for the catheter. Plus, the dialysis would be acute anyways. After a week we would be right back to square one. Fighters potassium levels are very elevated. Without the kidneys and dialysis, his heart will cease to function. They are unable to feed him as well do to the kidneys not supporting urine function. Finally, premature babies have brain bleeds. He has brain bleeds on both the left and right sides of his brain. The brain tissue looks changed as well. This was most likely caused by the infection within Melissas uterus. So, with a very heavy heart, and the support of our care team, we have decided to let him go. I love him.. I love him like Ive known him for years. and now, I get to be the dad that gives permission to let him die. My heart and mind hurt so bad right now, not only for fighter but for Melissa. I tried fixing him... And I feel like Ive failed. I appreciate you all following our journey. He changed me... And he will always be inside my heart.
