Let the slaughtering begin! One infected wild duck (that is one (1)) has been found in Europe, leading to the culling of 200,000 chickens and turkeys so far. Where will it end? Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations are disease breeding facilities to begin with. Thousands of humans die each year from salmonella and other diseases and infections from the unsanitary raising and slaughter of poultry. And the irony is that is more likely the domesticated birds infected any wild birds. How long before they kill all the wild waterfowl. It is amazing to me that given fragile state of the earth, we still think all other life exists to serve us, and we are free to treat them as we choose, regardless of ecosystem impacts. If you are worried about your health from eating poultry, (and you have reason to be), then stop raising and killing chickens. But orchestrated mass killings of domestic and wild birds is the worst form of fear mongering, by those responsible for the very conditions that create these types of harmful viruses.
