Let us examine how the Roman Catholic Church and Protestants believe regarding the state of the dead: Roman Catholic Churchs Belief When a man dies, his body returns to dust and his non-physical self (spirit/soul) returns to God where he continues as a disembodied spirit continues in a conscious state awaiting judgment. 1. The best Bible verse that describes what happens when we die is Luke 16 (rich man and Lazarus). 2. Both died, their spirits were carried away by the angels, where they were fully conscious. 3. At resurrection, all the dead, good and bad, will be made immortal. 1 Cor 15:54, after which they will either enter heaven or suffer eternal torment, being immortal. Protestants Belief They define spirit and soul as breath, blood, energy, life force etc. 1. Spirit is to the body, what electricity is to a light bulb, gas to a car, electrons to a computer. 2. When the power is turned off, the computer ceases to operate or dies and is no more alive than a stone. 3. If a computer is smashed to pieces while it is running, its life force leaves it and it ceases to operate and exist as a computer. So is man when he dies. 4. When we die God backs-up our life on a floppy disk. God has a huge storage room with one floppy disk for every man who has died. 5. When we are raised again, God boots our new body with our floppy disk. QUESTION: Which belief is more biblical and true?
