Let us now praise illustrious leaders for diverting public resources away from those at risk and in need in order to further engorge the already wealthy and powerful. It is not for those of us below to understand the mysterious wisdom of those on high who maintain wages below a level at which a family might survive and who then justify the elimination of public assistance with the assertion that the "job creators"—who pay low in order to maximize shareholder profit, according to capitalist dictates—must be subsidized, whereas the workers, the actual producers, must simply tighten their belts and work harder, so that "some day" they will have their turn to be "capitalist captains of industry," will have the pleasure of indulging in private gluttony on social goods, while denying those at risk and in need a share of what is ours in common, while starving children.
