Let us stop being mesmerised by the gossip about political leaders and pop stars and let us roll up our sleeves and work among the poor in town and country so that we can rebuild the dreams. The ambitions and the sense of worth that are the hallmarks of a self-confident, democratic nation. I repeat: if we build from below, a democratice government will, sooner rather than later, want to catch up with the people it is supposed to represent, and it will offer and provide the support that will make our own efforts succeed more easily and more quickly. Yo the rulers and would be rulers, the message is equally simple: stop treating people - citizens - as though they are objects or instruments, good only to be mobilised for party-political gain. If a project is worth pursuing, whether it is building houses, improving garbage removal, or whatever, do it for the people not for the honour and glory of the party. Along such ways, the people and the government will intersect and we will get beyond the trivilaties of current political discourse in South-Africa.
