“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.’ ” Matthew 5:13-16 “13 ‘Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.’ ” Jesus used salt and light to describe how we are to live for Him. Salt represents sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to others. A little salt in our food permeates whatever we make and makes it taste good. Each one of us is like salt. When we share the good news of Jesus Christ with others it has a profound effect on those we share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is spreading throughout the world and it is having a great effect on our society. Jesus said “Ye are the light of the world.” When you think of what light does, it makes sense that we are compared to light and we need to let our “light so shine before men, that they may see” our “good works, and glorify” our “Father which is in heaven." Who is the light? “ “ ‘Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.’ “ John 8:12 Jesus Christ is the light of the world and as we follow Jesus we no longer walk in darkness. He came to show the world the way to eternal life and heaven. John 1:1-18; John 3:16 So, the next time you use a salt shaker or turn on a light, remember that these are examples Jesus Christ gave to remind us of how we are to live in this world as we serve Him.
