Lets Pull Together: In the thick forest of Esan Land, a hunter - TopicsExpress

Lets Pull Together: In the thick forest of Esan Land, a hunter captured a gigantic elephant. It must have weighed over 22,000 pounds. He bound a long, sturdy rope around the elephant and tried to drag it home by himself. He could not do it. He travelled to a nearby village to seek help. Please come and help me! I have captured a humongous elephant and I cannot take it home by myself. Help me. Over one hundred men, women, and children gathered around the elephant. As they hauled, they chanted, Our elephant! Our elephant! The hunter protested: Hold it! This is my elephant. When the villagers heard this, they abandoned him. The man tried unsuccessfully to tow the elephant himself. He returned to the village and begged the people. After his pleading, they relented. As they were again pulling the elephant, they chorused, Our elephant! Our elephant! This time the hunter did not voice any objections. Dr. Michael I. Otaigbe enjoys creating and re-telling stories from Africa and around the world. A story room at Rosa Parks Elementary School (Osobhayo Story Room) is named after his mother.
