Lets Reason! Must Urhobo Be The First To Endorse Candidates? 2015 is just around the corner. Although campaigns are still far but it is a known fact that kitchen campaigns are already ongoing especially in the media. In face of all these I am worried where lies the future of Urhobo Nation. I am sadden and pain even as I write this. Is it that Urhobos are too gullible or is this hunger? From my last check, more than 15 Urhobo interest groups have endorsed Mr. A or Mr. B, C D for the gubernatorial election while other tribes are keeping mum. I am not ignorant of the fact that it is their civic rights as enshrouded in our constitution. But it beholds on us to tread with caution for the collective interest of Urhobo Nation. Have you seen Itsekiris, Ijaws, Isokos, and Delta North endorsing anyone yet? Must ours be different? Even at that is it how we will produce the next governor of Delta State? I am worried!!! Below are some of such write ups 2015: Urhobo leaders back Olejeme championonlinenews/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=17194:2015-urhobo-leaders-back-olejeme&Itemid=393&lang=en Thursday, 23 January 2014 01:21 Print Email Rate this item 1 2 3 4 5 (0 votes) URHOBO leaders in Delta State have vowed to support the governorship ambition of the Chairman, Board of Directors of Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) Dr. Ngozi Olejeme. In a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday by the Chairman, Urhobo Consultative Forum, Chief Okiemute Obatare, the leaders maintained that there was no better individual to rule the state in 2015 than Olejeme, judging from her antecedents and the need for a visionary leader to pilot the ship of the state. “After critical assessment of those interested in the coveted seat, we discovered few eminent Deltans with sterling capabilities and qualities to move Delta State forward. Among them, Dr. NgoziOlejeme stands tallest” they declared after a closed door meeting. The leaders, who expressed belief in Olejeme’s capacity to lead the state, said a combination of the fear of God which directs her conscience and her background, training and development would guide her conduct in office. “She has the necessary mental capacity and intellectual disposition, depth and robustness as well as the energy to grasp and tackle the complex and multidimensional determinants of a rapidly transforming state. “She has the experience and track record of performance in public office. She has positively impacted on the lives of the people” the leaders said. Considering her as a bridge between the old and the young, the symbol of a responsible and accountable leadership in the country, the leaders said Olejeme would deepen the mechanics of governance and service delivery. “If the leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State want to retain power in 2015, they have no other option but to adopt Olejeme as the party’s flag bearer” they advised. In the State, speculation is rife that he is working hard underground towards 2015 governorship elections. People say the man is on the ground yet the man himself has not formally announced his intention. As one of his associates what do you have to say concerning this speculation about Okubor’s governorship intent? Do you want me to announce for him? No. I won’t do that. He is the one who is going to contest election by the special grace of God. But let me say this: And I say it very, very clearly, and I’ve been saying it for the past two years; I had a divine revelation two years ago that Dr. Festus Okubor is the next governor of this State. I went to him and I told him so. Two years ago when we were still embroiled in the Ogboru legal matter in court. And people said oh in PDP that Magege is privy to some information and all that, I just laughed. How can you be privy to situation two years ago for replacement when the incumbent governor was having a battle of his life in court? It didn’t make any sense. But I went to him and I said ‘okoh’, okoh in Urhobo means my friend, just to tell you the level of friendship we have, ‘you are the one oh.’ He shrugged his shoulders and said “Olori please don’t get me into trouble. I am not interested.” I said ok. I went on air, I published it in the papers, that I know the person oh; I know the person. I told him that I am going to tell the world that he is the one, he keeps stopping me. He said ‘don’t go and put me into trouble, and don’t endanger my life.” But right now, no hiding place for Okubor any more. If he does not come out to contest, we will go and ‘kidnap’ him to contest. Quote me, if Okubor refuses to contest we will go to Ika North East and ‘kidnap’ them because he is the anointed one; anointed by God to be the governor of the state. You are going spiritual now, but for those who are not as spiritual as you, they will want to ask some questions: Now what are those attributes that qualify him to be governor? (Laughter). I will throw it back at you, you are the pressman; tell me apart from being deputy governor and governor, what position or positions has Okubor not held in the governance of Delta state in the past 12 years? Caretaker committee chairman, Director of Protocol, commissioner two times, today he is chief of staff. But most importantly, he is a detribalized Deltan. A man born in Agbor, grew up in Emevor, grew up in Otokutu, his father was the first principal of Otokutu Grammar School. Otokutu is not in Delta North oh, it’s in Central, it’s Urhobo. Emevor is in Isoko, Delta South. Okubor is as Urhobo as myself, he is as Isoko as myself. A completely detribalized man; so what more do you want me to say? Okubor told me that if Deltans want an Ibo governor he will not go; if they want Urhobo governor he will not go; if they want tribal governor he will not go because he is not a tribalist. I am close to the man, we discuss in his bedroom. And I have seen tears falling from his eyes when we discuss issues of Delta state; I have seen tears falling from his eyes when people are injured in Delta. Look I can’t talk about this man because when I talk they say eh he is your friend, he is your friend
