Lets Say Abraham Paid Tithes...Heb 7:1-14 For those Christians who argue that they pay tithes because Abraham paid it before the law, lets agree and look into the case of Abraham and compare it with what Jesus has done for us. My prayer is that the Holy Spirit will open the eyes of the people reading this to see Jesus exalted above all! 1. Abraham paid it once: For this Melchisedec...who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all...(Hebrews 7:1, 2 KJV) > Jesus Who came as the Seed of Abraham...by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us...now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. (Hebrews 9:12,24,26 KJV) + Jesus has obtained eternal redemption for us. We have the substance by faith, not the figures by the law nor principles. Tithes was for windows of heaven but Christ by a His blood opened the heaven for us; He did it once, not twice! By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. (Hebrews 10:10 KJV) 2. Abraham paid it out of the spoils, not out of his personal income: ...the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils. (Hebrews 7:4 KJV) > Out of the finished work of Christ Jesus we owe nothing to pay neither are we to pay tithes to receive blessing of God; And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. (John 1:16, 17 KJV) + In Christ we are already blessed beyond the blessing of Old Testament tithes, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. (Ephesians 1:3 KJV) 3. Abraham paid it to a perfect priest without physical temple nor descent: To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually. (Hebrews 7:2, 3 KJV) > Jesus is our Righteousness and Peace. He became us before God, our HighPriest; Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life. For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec...By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament...because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens. (Hebrews 7:16-26 KJV) + What more can be compared to what Jesus has done for us? He is our perfect tithes to a God! 4. Abrahams son Levi paid tithes in him: And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham. (Hebrews 7:9 KJV) > Levi and his descendants dont pay tithes like the other Jews because they already paid when his father Abraham paid it to Melchisedec. Likewise those in Christ has paid tithes through His offering of Himself; That the blessing of Abraham might come on us through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. (Gal 3:14) + Indeed Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the tithes recorded in Mal 3:8-12, being made a curse for us when He hanged on that cross of Calvary. For He hath made Him to be sin for us, Who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. (Gal 3:13. 2Cor 5:21) 5. Levites have a commandment to take tithes of the people of Israel: And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham. (Hebrews 7:5 KJV) > Jesus never give a commandment to take nor pay tithes to His church/followers. The New Testament church...as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ...ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. (1 Peter 2:5,9 KJV) + In Christ, we are not like the Jews Levites, we offer spiritual sacrifice of praise for what He has done for us; By him(our Lord Jesus) therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. (Hebrews 13:15 KJV) 6. Melchisedec did not receive tithes from Abraham according to the law: And here(in the levitical priesthood) men that die receive tithes; but there(in the case of Melchisedec) he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth. (Hebrews 7:8) > The law demands for continual tithes, but Melchisedec received it once from Abraham. In Christ, God is not asking for tithes according to the law, because Jesus has paid it all for us with His own life. Who is he that condemns (you for not tithing)? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again(Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification), Who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. (Romans 4:25; 8:34 KJV) + Our blessed assurance is in Jesus, Who by so much was made a surety of a better testament. And because He continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore He is able also to save us to the uttermost that come to God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for us (Read Heb 7:22-25). 7. Abraham had the promises of God: ...Abraham...had the promises. (Hebrews 7:6 KJV) > All the promises of God written and unwritten belongs to us now by faith in Christ jesu, For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. (2 Corinthians 1:20-22 KJV) + We have the faith of Jesus Christ now, not the principles of Abraham before the law; We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. (2 Corinthians 4:13-15 KJV) 8. Perfect fellowship between God and man: If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron? (Hebrews 7:11 KJV) > Tithing never established a perfect fellowship between men and God Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all... (1Tim 2:4-6 KJV) + Perfect relationship and fellowship is only through Jesus Christ; Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me...For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power. (Jn 14:6. Col 2:9-10 KJV) Read Heb 8:6; 9:15. 9. Change has come through Christ: For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law. For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar. For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood. (Hebrews 7:12-14 KJV) > Jesus brought the change from observing the law of tithes to offering sacrifices of praise to God for the price Jesus paid with His life for us. He gave us rest from labor and heavy laden of tithing; Jesus says, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. (Matthew 11:28, 29 KJV) + Jesus has given us rest, no need for laboring to pay to get anything from God. All you need is faith; For...without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6 KJV) If you are in Christ Jesus, by that faith in Him you have paid all the past, present and future tithes: He cried, Its Finished. (Jn 19:39) 10. Abraham saw a different day: For this Melchisedec...priest of the most high God, who met Abraham...and blessed him. (Hebrews 7:1 KJV) > He met Abraham, what a visitation! He blessed Abraham before tithes. He did not bless Abraham because he gave Him tithes. Abraham saw a day of blessing without paying tithes. Its the day of the Son of the most high God. Jesus the Son of the most high God said to the Jews who claims Abraham to be their father, Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad...Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. (John 8:56, 58 KJV) * Church, before Abrahams tithes, Jesus was; Before the law of tithes, Jesus was; therefore, As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit (of tithing), after the tradition (and religion) of men, after the rudiments of the world (carnal wisdom), and not after Christ. (Colossians 2:8,6-7 KJV) MARANATHA!
