Lets all say goodbye once and for all to the hookup. Because youre great at what you do, you undoubtedly get requests all the time from friends and loose acquaintances who need what you do, but dont want to pay. And perhaps because of the flattery (it feels good to be considered an expert in demand, after all!) you agree to doing things you know you shouldnt. You say yes when you know deep down you should be saying no. Dont get me wrong - I am all for sharing knowledge online and mentoring, but there comes a time when you have to make a choice about how you share your genius with the world. At a certain point you must decide if you have a hobby or a business. If you are content to earn your income working for someone else while you share your expertise with friends for free on the side, thats fine. If it is just a hobby, then represent it as such. But if it is a business, start setting boundaries and stop hooking people up. If it is a business, you have to charge.
