With the community’s support and word of mouth (were 21,000 strong on Facebook), we are ecstatic and surprised with the results so far. But there is so much more we want, and need, to do. 1. We want to create a farm incubator program. This means we’d allow aspiring farmers to rent a small portion of our land. In exchange we’d give them the resources, training, and support they need, in a low-risk environment where they can eventually generate their own revenue and emerge from the program with the skills required to be an independent farmer. 2. And, to begin the incubator program, we need to expand our infrastructure. We need to take full advantage of our current resources. FGF has 50 acres of fertile, irrigated farmland that’s available to us, but right now we’re only using 5 acres due to a lack of resources. To use those 50 acres, we need a new greenhouse. We have two small, inefficient greenhouses. But we need to build a new, larger greenhouse, which is essential to get plants off to a strong, healthy start. We also need seeds, supplies, tractor implements and training resources. We want farmers who leave the incubator program to have a good chance at starting a successful farm business.
