Lets get a few things straight, shall we? Inside the four walls of that courtroom, I am your advocate. I will push for every advantage. I will talk the loudest, longest and last, if possible. I will do everything legally and ethically permissible to advance your defense. I will be the cool assassin who never sweats. I will dump the Peoples case out all over the floor and pick through every last detail. However, outside those four walls, I am your advisor. I will be realistic. I will be candid and objective about the prospects of your case. I will tell you what I believe is in your best interests. You may not like what you hear. It may make you angry. Or frustrated. But you will receive my professional opinion, formed through years of experience, hard-knock lessons, trial and error, intuition and honed instincts. After all, if I were advising about your cancer, wouldnt you want me to be straight with you about your options and your prognosis? Finally, I am not your cheerleader. Because that role invariably injects emotion into the matter. And those emotions would cloud my judgment and impair my ability to do my best work for you.
