Lets get a little controversial. I keep hearing this opinion that we should not retaliate against #ISIL because the journalists they executed knew the risks going to cover news footage in Syria. In essence, they asked for it. How is this any different from saying that a woman who walked down a dark alley at night deserved to get raped? Theyre both victim blaming. One of them just happens to be acceptable to say out loud. A woman never deserves to be raped, period. These journalists did not deserve to be beheaded, period. The danger of the environment does not absolve the predator of guilt nor does it somehow remove justification for punishment. Just like I would call out anyone who thinks a woman is asking to be assaulted for traveling to a dangerous area, Im calling out anybody who thinks Steven Sotloff and James Foley deserved their fate. Its a disgusting and reprehensible suggestion. #SocialCommentary
