Lets give Gordon Brown a Welcome to Glasgow the YES City Gordon brown to be keynote speaker AT STATE OF THE CITY ECONOMY CONFERENCE in glasgow Gordon Brown MP, former Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer, is to be the keynote speaker at the 17th State of the City Economy (SOCE) conference in Glasgow next month. The conference will be held in the Radisson Blu Hotel on 21 November. The conference will examine Glasgow’s recent economic progress and consider policies that aim to meet the city’s economic challenges, and give a platform to organisations and businesses with a stake in the local economy. Councillor Gordon Matheson, the Leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “I am delighted that Gordon Brown will be the keynote speaker at this year’s State of the City Economy conference in Glasgow. We have had many significant people from the worlds of business, government and academia address the conference over the years, but perhaps none with the global role and insight into the key economic issues of our time that Gordon has. I and very many others will be extremely keen to listen to what he has to say.” The 17th annual SOCE conference will be hosted by the Glasgow Economic Partnership, and will feature a number of speakers from the public and private sectors. Over the past couple of years, the conference has welcomed addresses from Councillor Gordon Matheson; the Leader of Glasgow City Council; Nicola Sturgeon MSP, Deputy First Minister; Greg Clark, Global Advisor on the Development and Investment of Cities and Regions; Professor Sir Jim McDonald, Principal, University of Strathclyde and David Grevemberg, Chief Executive, Glasgow 2014
