Lets give peace a chance ------------------------------- I may not live to see the day when people transcend prejudice and hate barriers and stop killing each other in the name of God or ideology but I know were getting there. I must not lose sight of the fact that as Pakistani and Indian forces were busy shelling and killing each other over Kashmir, the Nobel Peace Prize Committee announced that Kailash Satyarthi of India and Malala Yousufzai of Pakistan were conjointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2014. In the 1970s John Lennon sang the words all we are same, so lets give peace a chance. How many human beings have died since then at the hands of people in the name of God or ideology? And so with that announcement I saw this possibility that wed stop killing each other in the name of God or ideology come a step closer. Both awardees are worthy recipients of that accolade and coming from nuclear armed nations that have fought three wars and are still fighting and killing each other I see the message that it proclaims. I consider the joint award to have a political message of hope that if two individuals can do so much to advance the cause of peace then Mr Modi and Nawaaz Shareef must do likewise and free themselves from the religio-politico barriers that wall them in and stop this internecine insanity. 11 October is the International Day of the Girl. It is thus very fitting that Malala, the youngest person ever to be awarded this year as co - recipient of the Nobel Peace Prise and to join the pantheon of peace laureates like Mandela,De Klerk and Tutu leaders who demonstrated that peace was achievable and possible. Yes, were getting there..........
