From a local police officer: Dear Family and Friends: As most of you know I have been working over the last 4 years with Representative Dean Kaufert to try and get Wisconsin to make available a specialty license plate allowing people to show support for the families of Law Enforcement Officers killed in the line of duty. This latest bill, AB208 was introduced last spring. This bill passed the Assembly committee on Transportation 2 weeks ago and was fast tracked passing the full Assembly on a 92-0 vote. The bill was then sent over to the state senate and has been referred to the Senate Committee on Transportation, Public Safety and Veterans and Military Affairs. According to Senator Ellis’ staff, the chairman of that committee, Senator Petrowski, has generally been against any new license plates of any kind. A committee chairman has the ability to stall a bill and let it die. This is where I am asking for your help. I have listed below the members of the Committee with the counties (or parts of counties) they represent along with some of the communities in their districts. If you know of anyone (particularly in law enforcement but any constituent will do) that lives in those areas, please contact them and ask them to contact their state senator and voice their support for AB208. Organizations such as the Chiefs of Police Association and Sheriffs Association have gone on record as groups supporting this bill however what we need now is INDIVIDUAL constituents contacting their state senator and voicing support. Even people who don’t live in the areas below can help by contacting their senator and voicing support. Feel free to forward this to anyone you think can help.
