Lets hope the City does the right thing & reverses the UCT mistake, which has put numerous civilians & most importantly, 1st responders lives in jeopardy. Our FDNY dispatchers are unique; they are trained & prepared to handle the city of this sizes emergencies. The FDNY has always been an aggressive fire department, from the way we attack fires to the way the dispatchers handle the calls. The dispatchers must be able to decipher which emergency requires a specific response. As we all learn from day 1 of training to be a firefighter, the size up starts from the moment the phone is connected to our dispatcher & the moment you start your tour. Receiving the proper information over our firehouse computers helps give the responding firefighters & fire officers direction. Since the beginning of UCT, we have been turning out for.... um, what? Thats just it, we dont know. Does this response require lights and sirens? Is it even the right location?
