“Lets pretend- crucial to learning”- The more I research into optimal performance (holistic wellness – less aggressive nomenclature) and by that I refer to the optimal emotional and physical state a person can be, a nagging thought returns. The thought is that the modality already exists to make it so, but our limitation is due to our belief in what we can achieve. From the Article: Voluntary resistance running with short distance enhances spatial memory related to hippocampal BDNF signaling. Min Chul Lee , Masahiro Okamoto , Yu Fan Liu , Koshiro Inoue , Takashi Matsui , Haruo Nogami , Hideaki Soya Journal of Applied PhysiologyPublished 15 October 2012Vol. 113no. 1260-1266DOI: 10.1152/japplphysiol.00869.2012 PHYSICAL EXERCISE HAS BENEFICIAL effects on our brains and brawn, not only with regard to muscular metabolic efficiency but also with regard to our brain and mental functions. In particular, a number of studies have shown that voluntary exercise enhances neuronal plasticity (46), reduces depression and anxiety (4), and improves cognitive functions (45). Voluntary exercise-enhanced cognitive functions have been shown to be associated with synaptic plasticity and altered gene expression in the hippocampus (13, 47), which suggests that exercise-induced synaptic plasticity is crucial for hippocampal-dependent learning and memory. Although previous studies have indicated that hippocampal plasticity changes with voluntary exercise, the optimal voluntary exercise condition for generating beneficial effects in cognitive function is still poorly understood.
