Lets see, Hong Kong did not have universal suffrage to choose - TopicsExpress

Lets see, Hong Kong did not have universal suffrage to choose their governor/top leader for the past 150 years before 1 July 1997 under British rule...and HK city did fine to become a thriving financial hub. Our beloved English media did not think this is a problem for over a century. The 1984 Sino-British Joint Declaration between China and UK also did not mention universal suffrage. It is Beijing that propose in the Basic Law to allow HK voters to elect its future top leader , ie the Chief Executive from a list of two or three candidates selected by a nominating commitee, which is in line with practices of democratic countries around the world... And our beloved English media had chosen NOT to report on this. I sense that the West was afraid that HK might ACTUALLY have universal suffrage from Beijing eventually and it will be a shining example of one country two system , and thus the urgency for the Western agencies to speed up the subversion and sabotage before this materialize.
