Lets stop going to church. Lets BE The Church and go to THEM! In Mark 16:15, we read the words, Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Many refer to this as The Great Commission and, for those who choose to follow and obey the Lord Jesus, youll notice this directive begins with the word, Go and not the word Sit. Yet, a casual observer of the Body of Christ wont help but notice how much sitting we do, especially in our so-called worship services. Can you imagine trying to lure potential converts into choosing to follow Jesus by telling them, You will be resigned to sitting in a church building, listening to anywhere from 500 to 2,000 sermons over a 70-year lifetime. How exciting...where do I sign-up? A relative few would have their lives radically changed as a result of this exercise. Many would jump ship as a result of boredom, lack of community, perceived hypocrisy, disapproval of the way funds are spent... a myriad of reasons. Multitudes have grown weary of church-as-usual and the traditions of men that make Gods Word of no effect. They long to do the stuff, as John Wimber famously stated, referring to impact of the early Church as recorded in the Book of Acts. Jesus, who said He came as our example, cannot be found in Scripture sitting and listening as todays Church has been trained to do. He was among the people, doing good and healing those who were oppressed by the devil (Acts 10:38). He could be found on the highways and bi-ways, in the marketplace, wherever there was pain and suffering. God is raising an Army of Certified Chaplains through The Church @ Work (TCAW). These are individuals of many denominational affiliations who are responding to the call to serve as Jesus did. Not only are they serving in the marketplace and in nursing homes and hospitals, but they can be found in jails, prisons, in law enforcement, on the streets and in disaster relief. TCAW Chaplains are located in Hawaii, Louisiana, Tennessee, Oregon, Oklahoma, Washington, California, Texas and elsewhere, including Canada. Not only are they serving hurting people, but they are an unseen assistant to traditional church ministers in their community, traveling for hours to visit a young man in prison or an elderly woman in a distant hospital. They are officiating weddings while most pastors are either preaching, or ministering to their own families at home. Theyre conducting funerals, baptisms, or counseling sessions while ministers run their churches. Does this appeal to you, just as it has so many others? God is ordaining the Ordinary. Act NOW by sending an eMail to Michael Tummillo, Founder of TCAW, at MikeTummillo@me and type CHAP in your Subject Bar.
