Lets take flexible dieting (IIFYM). This approach has received a lot of resistance and negativity, but why? IMO simple, because it goes against what most have learned, been taught, used and preached for years. Which is based on the idea that food avoidance, restriction, and nutrient timing is the ONLY way to get lean and compete at a high level. A list of approved foods ate day in and out, while avoiding bad foods or things you enjoy, eating a specific number of meals a day such as 6x a day and at certain times such as every 2-3 hours. Now there is nothing wrong with this idea per say if its based on your individual personal preferences and nutrient needs as this approach clearly works and has been used for years but that in no way proves its the only method, best method, or most optimal method to reach your goals. Now Id be somewhat resistant and defensive also if I found out the way Id been doing things may not be the best or only approach, if id been eating the same things day in and out for months on end and avoiding things I enjoy, being anti-social and a recluse during prep because going out means eating or being tempted to eat the foods not on your meal plan or approved list. If someone achieved the results I was after and did it enjoying themselves and having balance in life while being social with the kids, family, and friends. Yeah Id be upset. But to have the mindset its the only way is just having a closed mind when it comes to things. Being arrogant to think you have all the answers and that your approach cant be wrong is absurd. Not to mention most have preached against flexible dieting, that it cant work, you cant get shredded, and that you cant compete at a high level eating that way without truly understanding what it is. So some would be eating their words so to speak and have to admit it might work and they may be wrong. But in reality there is nothing wrong with that, we are all human and things evolve, we learn things, better approaches, and grow. Honestly most have flexible dieting wrong and thats where a lot of the confusion and resistance comes from. Flexible dieting isnt about eating crap all day or the easy way out as most think. Being flexible is simply about having a balance between life and your goals. Eating according to those goals and your nutrient needs and basing it around your personal preferences, schedule and life style. If you like it then it eat if not then dont, there is plenty of options to meet your daily protein, carb, and dietary fat needs than just a small list of approved foods. If your schedule and preferences allow for you to eat 6x a day great but if you can only do 3x then thatll work also. The main thing is being consistent and meeting your nutrient needs at the eat of the day not a list of approved foods or meal times. At the end of the day follow what you can be consistent with and adhere to long term while eating according to your goals and nutrient needs. I always say that should be based on your personal preferences, schedule and lifestyle as that will make adherence easier. Fit the plan into your life not your life into the plan. -Thomas MGF Major Gainz Fitness #MAJORGAINZ #LEVELUP #FLEXIBLEDIETING
