Lets talk a little bit about TACT. I know many of you MCJROTC cadets have probably heard this before. Its a leadership trait in the Marine Corps, yes? For those of you who havent been taught this, this is defined as the ability to deal with others without creating offense. Im still learning this everyday, but the way we deliver our words, ESPECIALLY on the internet where your physical presence cant be felt, is extremely important. You can push someone away, lose a relationship, even get someone hurt because something you say is ambiguous or deemed too far left or right. Now, this isnt a call to be all cuddly and nice and hold hands while skipping in fields of wheat. Unrealistic by nature... although I suppose if thats what you WANT to do, knock yourselves out. But I think its ridiculous having to tell people not to be a dick on here. It just shows that we have to really find that right blend between hot and cold here. Think carefully about your delivery, as your grasp on someone elses journey is not the same as theirs. Ive said this many times. Were not Drill Instructors, so dont go on here cursing a kid out and saying that they should quit. It works for SOME, but not for everyone, and NO ONE on this forum is your freakin guinea pig, so dont try it here. To my understanding, no ones done that, but thats just an example. Were also not their mom or dad, so dont pamper them or sugar coat them when they clearly need to hear the truth; as thats just as disrespectful as the opposite end. We want drillers here to GROW, and they cant do that while breastfeeding on lifes political tit. On the flipside young drillers, understand that no one here is out to get you. Ultimately, we DO want you to grow in this art because thats what you came here to do. In fact, we call you to it through our constant critiques and comments. When those ARE given to you, accept them with humility and gratitude; because not everyone got what youre getting. Sometimes it may be tough, but its really just tough love. Dont make an excuse, dont snap back at them, just take it and grow stronger.
