Lets talk about the homeless: Heres a gem that Ive heard about the homeless since I was knee high. People are homeless because they wanna be. Do people aspire to be homeless, hungry, dirty, sickly, abused, ridiculed , unloved, because its a fun life for them? Every major city has thousands of people living in their city suffering from this problem and its ignored except if it interferes with tourism. Isnt it ironic that folks care more about a homeless animal than a homeless human. Its no longer about a 65 year old grungy man sleeping on a wine bottle, now its families , young children, women and its growing daily. Some states have decided to treat homelessness like a crime, like my state Florida. They dont have enough jail cells to house the homeless, so why not put people in housing and give job training to those who can work. Locking homeless people in a cell is not the answer. Many working people today are a paycheck or two from being out on the street. Do you want to lock them up too? I dont buy the argument that homeless people are only trying to get a free ride- tell that to the war veterans that are sleeping off the interstates here in Florida, or the children in shelters, or the guy suffering from depression without health care. Its a mess we must address or it be a family member out there some day. Love V.D.
