Lets talk about these bare-faced selfies for cancer awareness pics for a bit, okay? Ive seen them all over my newsfeed. This particular campaign was started in the UK, and actually raised $$$$ for the cause. Ive seen many of my sisters posting their selfies in support of this, but at least in the U.S. it has nothing to do with raising money. Ive also seen a lot of anger over these pictures, particularly from women whove actually gone through the horrors of breast cancer, or in my case, mastectomies w/o cancer, but in prevention of it due to a horrendously high cancer risk. My stance: this particular selfie campaign doesnt bother me nearly as much as all the ridiculous secret games that want women (hi, what about the men in these games??) to post things like: I just won $7000 on a scratchy, I used my boobs to get out of a ticket, No more toilet paper, hello socks, etc, etc. To me any true awareness campaign has nothing to do with secrecy or exclusion. Id love to hear your thoughts on this, and to have a respectful discussion here about these things.
