Lets talk net ban. Firstly I must admit that at the time I was against it. Not for the reasons you might think. I find it ridiculous how Florida often uses its constitution to enact legislation that should be handled legislatively. I usually oppose all constitutional initiatives on these grounds. But I see how it came to that point. We had a user group unwilling to bend and a Wildlife commission unwilling to take the initiative. Now since the net ban. Tampa Bay has rebounded as have many other sensitive areas. But we have also killed off a local source of revenue and we now import a fish that abundantly swims in our bays and shorelines. What must happen is we must remove the emotion, rhetoric, and distrust and find away to access this profitable and abundant resource for our local economies while protecting juvenile and non-target species as well as our sensitive grass flats and estuaries. If we can not come to those terms then the net ban must remain until we can meet these terms.
