Letter to Editor by Colleen Canon in the London Free press today!! Please Share!! Rhetoric is easy, you have to show up to lead As she retired after 36 years as Mississauga’s mayor, Hazel McCallion cited public service as one of the most noble pursuits citizens can undertake, saying everyone can serve the community in some way. Yet, when asked in a Free Press interview what he had done to work or help in the community before entering the race for mayor, Paul Cheng could not offer even a single example of community service or involvement. When pressed for details on a platform riddled with contradictions and campaign pledges that veer from unlikely to impossible, he again had nothing to offer. Comparing himself to a modern-day Magellan without a map, Cheng said, “Crucify me for details.” Rhetoric is easy, particularly from someone with no grasp of what the job of mayor entails. True leadership is born of dedication and commitment to working for the betterment of our community. London and its citizens deserve no less. Colleen Canon London
