Letter to Judical Board, TM Tribal Judges, TM Tribal Council Can the Judical Board please explain why our Tribal Judges and the Tribal Council are allowing the BIA Corrections Office to send our prisoners and loved ones to the Yuma Arizona Federal Prison? . The enrolled members of our tribe has endured riding 20 hours in one day in a bus , They are shackled and handcuffed in sweltering heat 112 degrees this past week. The were forced to sleep in several different jails in different states unbeknownst to who their cellmate is convicted of . The men were denied the right to know where they were at and where they were headed. They were forced out of their Belcourt cells on Wednesday am and arriving at their destination on Saturday July 13 at 5am. No phone calls were given to their families to tell them they were being transferred and no calls at each destination of stop. These five prisoners were forced to eat bologna sandwiches and drink water for four days. They remained shackled and handcuffed the entire trip. If you would like to participate in stopping this cruel and unusual punishment and seek better humane treatment of the incarcerated Turtle Mtn, people and be a VOICE for these prisoners who wish to remain in North Dakota. The Turtle Mountain Tribal Government is holding a meeting in the Tribal Chambers on July 14 at 11:00. Please attend, this practice needs to be halted immediately and we need to band together to protect the prisoners civil rights. These men are in detention for misdemeanors.
