Letter to Sydney Morning Herald re movie review: Paul Byrnes review of the movie A Winter’s Tale made a passing reference to Colin Farrell’s ‘bog-Irish bacon’ being saved. I would guess that the assonance of the phrase attracted him but it strikes me as a lazy piece of journalism – using an out of context expression because the author apparently liked the sound of it. I’m not sure what Colin Farrell, a native of the great metropolis of Dublin would make of it. In any case Mr. Byrnes in future reviews might give thought to referring to Tommy Lee Jones as ‘trailer trash Texan’ or maybe Nicole Kidman might have her ‘bogan bacon’ saved in a crisis. While both examples are as poorly referenced as his, the assonance is much better. Alternatively he could choose to shove his Aussie Assonance up his ....... Tim Foley
