Letter to the mom of the toddler: The movie was playing and the lights were out. You must have had older children watching and a restless toddler. Obviously you decided to let your toddler wander around the gym while you followed her. I get it. I understand. Weve all been there. What you dont understand is that my child has issues with personal space and distractions. What seem like small distractions to us are huge to him. He doesnt talk much when out of the house (I was lucky to get four words all evening and they were whispered). So, when your toddler walked over our blanket we were laying on several times, I had to hug my child tight and tell him to wait it out and it would all be okay. When she walked over it the last time, and I didnt anticipate it... He moved his head and nodded it at your child. I knew it was his non verbal way of saying, Please move!.. and then it happened. It did. He sprang his leg over and pushed your child off his blanket. The look of horror on your face was expected. The look you then gave me... the one that says, You. You horrible parent with a horribly misbehaved child. Shame on you. What are you going to do about this?! Also was not a surprise to me. I took my child and our things and we promptly left. We missed the end of the movie. Its okay. I cant expect you to understand. You are probably telling others of the incident now. I get tired of trying to explain. I really do. Sometimes I just need to walk away.
