Letters from prisoners. Real letters from real prisoners. May 16, 2014 To Whom: My name is _____________ and I am a detainee at Cook County Jail in Chicago. I was speaking to another female detainee about meditating and she suggested that I try your book. I have been in this jail for over two years and will most likely be here for about another year so I have nothing but time on my hands. If you are able or willing to send me a copy of a book I would honestly appreciate it. I need directions on how to calm my mind and body. Thanks in advance. Sincerely, Prisoner PO Box 089002 Chicago IL ***** Dear PYP, A friend let me borrow his Yoga-A Path for Healing and Recovery. I felt it was a very helpful text. It gives an easy, clear path to take for real change. I’ve always been drawn to Eastern spiritual practices. This, unfortunately, is my third prison term. I studied Bo Lozoff’s book “We’re All Doing Time” but I guess I didn’t incorporate his lessons, because here I am again, starting a 4 year stretch. I’m writing for any literature you can help me with. I would love a copy of Yoga, A Path for Healing and Recovery. If you can provide me with a copy of the Gita I’d be eternally grateful I had started reading it when I got arrested. Blessings, Prisoner Connecticut Corr. Facility Suffield CT 06080 ***** Dear Prison Yoga Project, I am writing in hopes of receiving a copy of your free yoga manual, please. I am in the 24th year of a non-agg 30 year sentence for a basic burglary charge, & as a supposedly “confirmed” gang member, am confined to a 12’ X 8’ cell 23 hours a day, on a good day. Welcome to the great state of Texass. I appreciate anything you can send. Respectfully, Prisoner Texas State Prison Clements HSU Amarillo TX 79107 ***** My name is ______________ and I’m currently doing 36 years in CCWF. I heard about your “Yoga A Path for Healing and Recovery book and would like to request a copy of it. I believe this book would have a huge positive impact on my life here. Can I please get a copy? I will put it to good use and share with friends. Thanks so much. Prisoner Central Calif. Women’s Facility PO Box 1508 Chowchilla CA 93610 ***** Hi, I am interested in taking yoga. One of my cellies and I started doing yoga together a while back. Mainly I thought it was some sissy type of stuff but as it turns out that is not the case. Another inmate let us borrow his Yoga Journal magazines and man those positions that some people do are wicked tough. Then an inmate showed me a booklet containing different programs and addresses in an “Inside Books Project” booklet and came across your ad, and would like to receive your free copy of the 100 pg yoga manual. I get back pains and am sure yoga will help me and strengthen me physically, mentally and possibly emotionally. Thanks for your service and dedication in helping people however possible. Sincerely, Prisoner Texas State Prison Wallace Unit Colorado City TX 79512 If you would like to send a book to a prisoner, buy one for yourself, or both, click here: prisonyoga.org/store/yoga-book/ You may never set foot in prison but you can change a prisoner’s life. Namaste
