~Let’s Celebrate… Ah, yes… one of my favorite songs of the era… It was on this date, January 2, 1941, that the Andrews Sisters recorded Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. LaVerne, Maxene and Patty Andrews recorded at Decca’s studios in Los Angeles and the song was introduced in the movie, Buck Privates, starring Bud Abbott and Lou Costello. Buck Privates was in production, to be released later this month in 1941. The song was written by Don Raye and Hughie Prince, and was recorded nearly a year before the United States entered World War II but after the start of a peacetime draft to expand the armed forces in anticipation of American involvement. The flipside was Bounce Me, Brother, With a Solid Four. Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song. Here’s the clip from the movie….
