Let’s Talk Hatred How can experiencing an emotion like hatred bring satisfaction? Most people try very hard to turn away from hatred. Believe it or not, The Guides say hatred is a workable tool you can use to know better about yourself and the parts of you that are buried. “Man loves to point his fingers into the face of another,” The Guides say. “It makes him feel powerful, but all of you experience dislike or hate at some point in your life. The important thing is not to hate yourself.” Hate is an emotion that runs deep. You know how to confront hate, because you believe in order to overcome it, you must learn to love. That’s true, The Guides say, but you must also learn what part of you you’re trying to avoid. Here’s the wrong way to use hatred: You create a dislike or hatred of someone or something by drawing a premature conclusion about the situation. That’s when you shut down emotionally. The way to use it as a tool is to understand that of all the emotions, hatred is the greatest anchor. When you allow yourself to feel your dislike, your anger, your discomfort—your hatred—it lets you see the blisters and wounds created in your life that need to be healed. Those wounds are like vegetables that have been stored away--you can try to keep them in the dark, but eventually they move toward the light, forcing you to taste them.
