Let’s get a couple of things out of the way: No parking on the gravel hill near Field 4! The Parks & Rec Lady paid us a surprise visit last night and was horrified by this and the fact that people were parked on the road that leads to the dog park. Please don’t do it. Toon Squad dropped out of the league. The good news is that there is now an even 18 teams. The bad news is that I need to make some changes to the schedule and confuse things a bit. Keep your eyes open for updates on this topic. Did anyone find a BAFLC pinnie Tuesday night? Let me know. I have begun preparations for the All-Star game and I have some ideas that should spice things up, benefit the community, and draw an audience to watch. The following is a bit of a brain storm and I would like input from everyone: The All-Star game is scheduled for Thursday July 24th. I am working on getting a lighted field at the complex where we play at an affordable price but this remains to be seen. I would like the format for the game this year to be a collegiate vs post-collegiate challenge. All captains will submit entries from their team and these players will be voted upon by everyone and the teams will be chosen. Players having graduated this year and past will play on the orange team while the All-Stars still in college will play for the grey. To attract a crowd I propose the following. A Free Clinic for kids in kidergarten through 6th grade an hour before the game. I see 6 separate stations at Turk where All-Star participants teach their specialty to groups of kids who are cycled through every 10 minutes. For example (this is all hypothetical because I haven’t asked anyone yet), imagine at Goal 1 Matt Finor and Craig Hunsberger teaching a Face-off Clinic while at Goal 2 Jimmy Green does a Shooting Class. Goal 3 could feature Kyle Quist hosting the Finer Points of Dodging while at Goal 4 Colin Ambler and Dane Mangin could teach Off-Ball movement and Feeding. Zack Micciche can teach defense on Field 5 and Field 6 would be reserved for Tony Aqualino who can teach a course on degrading and emasculating your opponent. With any luck we can send him over to Field 2 and we can listen to him yell at 7 year olds as they take sad shots, “Ewwwwwe”, “Pewwwwwe”, and shake of the head followed by “absolutely terrible”. It will be a great time! To keep the kids there to watch the game we talk to someone like Unos and/or Ritas about sponsoring food after the clinic and raffling off some donations after each quarter. Other ideas I have are finding someone to cough up money for tees and maybe a hard shot contest. Anyone have a radar gun? What is your two cents? As for Tuesday nights scores, the refs didn’t turn in all the score cards so I am limited in what I know at this point…You told me so, I hear ya. Help me fill in the blanks guys: Who the Heck are the Bar Down Boys??? They either win or hang around uncomfortably when playing a really good team. They lost to the Pink Panthers 6-5. The Gryphons made it 2 in a row with a 9-1 win over the Under Dogs. The Trailer Park Boys beat the Old Dogs 10-5…Please God, let that be right The Sharks came up a bit short late in the game in a 6-5 loss to the Pierogies. Colin Ambler went off for the Dills with 6 points in a 9-2 win over the Tropics. ECRN beat Arrowhead by one goal 6-5 After being knotted up at 4 at halftime, The Freaks pulled away from OB Sauce to win it in the second half 8-5. I don’t have scores for the Beavers vs Magnum and West Alumni vs The Wild Cards games. Help me out. The west Alumni Game reminds me, if you are looking for the trainer, it is likely that he will be hanging out near the bench with the overhang between Field 3 and the Soccer Fields. When it comes to Summer League it’s not the team with the most talent who wins…It’s the team with the most talent who shows up to play who is the most successful.
