Let’s sell our water rights away! There I got your attention… Tomorrow…Tuesday, August 26, 2014 there is a Special J.T.C. meeting here in Sipayik at 5 p.m. Agenda: 1. Finite Carbon. 2. Tomah Water Lease Agreement. Tomah Water Lease - As Tribal members, we are shareholders or owners for our natural resources: the land, water, and forests. Do you know Indian Township wants to sell bottled water, water that comes from a shared resource and belongs to us all (Tomah Stream?) and does not want Sipayik involved at all. I am hearing Indian Township wants to offer Sipayik “lease payments” to sign over our water rights, because we are one Tribe and they need our blessing to use the “Passamaquoddy Tribe” name. I hope this is not true. Please correct me if I am wrong. Has each Tribe asked its members if they want this to happen? Shouldn’t this go out to referendum? So no matter where you stand, I hope you talk about this with others and plan to attend this meeting. If not, who knows what will happen? Please talk to our Council members and ask where your future elected officials stand. Let your voice be heard! Share this Please.
